Public policy
A good message isn’t enough. You have to help make the rules.
Years developing and advancing ideas that matter, from Cabinet secretaries’ offices to city halls.
Most policy ideas arrive with the easy half done. There’s a goal, and (usually) a constituency behind it. What’s missing: bill or executive-order language. A cost estimate that survives the other side’s economist. Someone who can actually run the thing on a Tuesday.
That’s the work, and most of it is nuts and bolts. Model legislation a state can carry without a rewrite. A map of what a governor can do alone and what needs a vote or a judge. A plan a new administration can run from its first morning. Regulatory analysis that says what a rule costs, and who pays.
Messaging matters, of course; I’ve done plenty of it. But one reason I got into public policy in the first place is that I don’t have much patience for theater. Messaging without a clear, legal and achievable path to change is just theater.
